With its roots established in the toughest races of the Spring Classics, the Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Front Clincher Wheel 2017 is a phenomenal performing wheel no matter what the conditions.
New for this year is the 77/177 hubset. Handily, this removes the need for maintenance, which none of us really have time for or want to be doing! Additionally, this solidifies their industry leading durability thanks to the improved bearing protection. Keeping things even simpler is the fact that no pre-load adjustment is required. Another benefit of the hubs is the flange geometry and spoke hole attachment pattern to provide the perfect levels of torsional and lateral stiffness and robustness.
Light enough to be at home in the mountains, there is the added benefit of the Firecrest aerodynamic profile. This focusses on both the front and back of the wheel so that the centre of pressure can be moved backwards. The benefit of this is the crosswind stability that rivals that of a box rim. Additionally, the rim allows the tyre profile to be optimised for comfort and stability with no compromise to rolling resistance.
The revolutionary Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control (ABLC™) dimples are here to stay thanks to their ability to smooth airflow over the rim surface. What is new though, is the increase in quantity to four times the number of dimples originally seen.
