Shimano WH-RS11RL Rear Wheel
Incorporating some of the technologies that Shimano uses in its high end wheels, the Shimano WH-RS11RL Rear Wheel is a lot of wheel for the money.
All important aerodynamics are even catered for at this shallow 24 mm depth, thanks to the high aluminium profile.
One of the most noticeable performance criteria for a wheel is it stiffness. Shimano have tackled this in a number of ways, such as using 20 bladed stainless steel straight pull spokes in a two-cross lacing pattern to deliver superb torsional and lateral strength. Additionally, a 3 mm offset in the asymmetric rim as well as the wide flange spacing adds to the lateral rigidity. All of this combined ensures a superb level of power transfer, meaning your efforts are converted to forward motion.
Your quest for speed is also assisted by the angular contact bearings in the hub. The theory here is that the bearings are cradled to produce better support as well as higher strength and reliability. This design also helps with adjustment and maintenance.
Maintenance should not be too much of a concern though, as the labyrinth and contact sealing keeps out mud, water and grime.
