Shimano BR-RS805 Road F-Mount Hydraulic Disc Brake Caliper, Front
With the imminent trial of disc brakes in some UCI events, it is little surprise to see road specific versions of the quality of this Shimano BR-RS805 Road F-Mount Hydraulic Disc Brake Caliper, Front starting to appear on the market. What you get here is a road specific disc brake designed to work with the Flat mount fitment.
This mounting system has advantages for frame and caliper design. This is most noticeable at the rear, as this front caliper will still require an adapter bolted to the rear of the fork. Further adapters are required should you want to run anything larger than 140 mm.
Even the brake pads have been tailored to road use with a specific composition that makes them suited to the higher temperatures from road use.
The low profile design for road use has not compromised function though, as you still get the one-way bleeding and simple tool access that were such benefits on larger models.
Shimano have pitched these BR-RS805 versions at the Ultegra level, so fitting well within the upper echelons of their tiers. The performance and modulation you get with their hydraulic action though is certainly befitting of a top end model.
Please note: The brake pads supplied with this caliper are not mountain bike compatible.
