There are many upgrades to opting for ceramic bearings rather than steel - with the main being Silicon Nitride (the material that the bearings are made from) can be machined to greater accuracy. Not only does this increase durability and reduce any anomalies when manufacturing, but it means the balls can be rounder and polished smoother than any other metal available, making them easier to roll with minimal resistance.
