If you are after the best in aerodynamics as well as optimised performance when using clincher tyres, the HED Jet Black Clincher Disc Wheel is worth a look.

The wheel has a 'hybrid skeletal' construction with an aero carbon 'skin' and aluminium tyre junction and braking surface. Sapim CX-Ray spokes join the hub to the aluminium rim structure, forming a standard wheel, and the carbon sides are then bonded on.

The wide 25mm external rim alters the clincher tyre profile to make it wider and shorter which increases the sidewall stability and decreases rolling resistance while providing extra grip in corners and an extremely comfortable ride.

The 25mm width continues 70mm towards the hub and then tapers, giving a bulbous appearance. The sides then flare out again to where they meet the hub; this profile combined with the closed carbon sides significantly reduces drag and keeps the air in contact with the wheels for longer, allowing for more speed and stability, whatever the wind angle.

The black 'turbine' finish to the aluminium section looks great and provides a dramatically improved braking performance; up to 25% shorter in the dry and 70% in the wet.

The Sonic hub features ABEC 5 stainless bearings and an oversized, 15mm diameter axle to reduce deflection and peak loads, for improved bearing life and reduced rolling resistance.

This wheel is easy to service, requiring only two 5mm Allen keys and will suit any rider setup, with both Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo compatibility available.
