There is nothing better than topping up the tan, whether that be on a winter escape to the sun or a summer jaunt. As cyclists we revel in those days when you can get out in a short sleeve jersey. Spring and summer cycling kit has come a long way in the last few years and now manufacturers offer a wide range of styles designed for anything from race day to commuting.

I recently headed off to Majorca for a week of warm weather training with Sportful’s BodyFit Pro Team Jersey stowed away in my suitcase, ready to test. This jersey was developed inconjuction with the professional team, Tinkoff Saxo and is currently being worn by the likes of Peter Sagan and Alberto Contador.

As the name suggests, The BodyFit Pro Team Jersey is a pro level jersey but as I soon found out it still offered a forgiving fit- ideal for training as well as racing.

From the outset I was impressed with the quintessential Italian styling. The electric blue and white colours were vibrant and fresh. Designed to be worn with the BodyFit Pro LTD Shorts, this ensemble would not look out of place cruising down the coast in St Tropez or battling over the cobbles of Flanders.

The neat detailing on the zip and around the sleeves was a nice touch, as was the Sportful logo on the chest.

Pulling the jersey on for the first time I found the regular fit was tight enough not to be baggy but not too restrictive either and it left me with plenty of space in the three rear pockets for all my nutrition, a gilet, pump and mobile phone for the day’s 160 kilometre spin.

A common feature on many jerseys now is the use of silicone grippers. These have been placed on the BodyFit jersey on the sleeves and waist. As the hours ticked by this kept the jersey in place.

I was out for a mountainous ride where I would be climbing out of the saddle, so ease of movement and lightweight fabrics were key considerations. Dancing on the pedals up one of Majorca’s 5 kilometre climbs I found the stretchy shoulder panels allowed me to open my chest up and move the bike easily from under me. The addition of the full length YKK Vislon zip was a welcome addition, especially when the temperature rose to a rather pleasant 25 degrees celsius. This meant I was able to slightly open the jersey for a little extra breathability.

Pushing on up the climb the DryPro lite material meant I stayed sweat free and comfortable. The lightweight fabric allowed excellent airflow and definitely helped as I crested the top of the climb. This fabric also proved useful on the fast descent as it meant I didn’t get cold.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a high performance jersey but do not want to be restricted by the cut, the Sportful BodyFit Pro Jersey is the ideal choice for racking up those spring and summer miles in.
