One of the major benefits of owning a pair of Bont cycling shoes is that you are able to heat mold the shoe to ensure the very best possible fit, specific to your feet.

Bont shoes are constructed from a resin that is incredibly stiff, yet mouldable at relatively low temperatures. Due to this you are able to heat mold your Bont shoes from the comfort of your own home in a domestic oven. The process is straightforward and hassle-free but there are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. REMOVE any cleats, laces, cleat mounting screws and innersoles from the shoes before heating
  2. DO NOT heat the shoes any higher than 70C/160F. Temperatures higher than this will void your warranty
  3. DO NOT place your feet in the hot shoes or you may burn your feet

Heat Molding Instructions

To mold your shoes, remove any cleats, laces or cleat mounting screws and innersole. Failure to remove the innersole can result in it becoming deformed by the heat.

Pre-heat the oven to 70C/160F. Many thermostats are not accurate, so if in doubt, set to a lower temperature. Place the shoe in the oven for 15 minutes maximum. Higher temperatures will void your warranty and may damage your shoe. Caution: Do not place your feet in the hot shoes or you may burn your feet. Let them cool a little and test the shoe temperature with your hand before placing your feet in the shoes.

Put the innersole back in and with socks on, place your feet in the shoes and tighten the straps/dials and allow to cool. It is best to stand still to let your weight distribute evenly across the shoes. If you have any lumps or bunions on your feet or if there are any areas causing discomfort, while the shoe is hot you can use the round end of a screwdriver to press out any part of the shoe.

If the shoes are not ready, place shoes back in the oven and keep heating until the carbon softens. Check the shoes every 5 minutes and rotate their position. In the last 5 minutes check more regularly until the shoe feels more malleable. The shoes are infinitely re-moldable so you can continue to mold the shoes until they fit.
