Quarq Riken 10R-110BCD Road Power Meter GXP

Almost identical to their top end Elsa model that you will see adorning the bikes of the professional peloton, this Quarq Riken 10R-110BCD Road Power Meter for GXP bottom brackets is a highly desirable power meter in a competitive market. The only difference between this and the Elsa is the ability to generate power readings for both crank arms separately, which will have no impact on the majority of us. Any impact will be lessened by the fact that you are still getting the industry topping accuracy of +/- 1.5%, which is the key element for monitoring and replicating your training and race efforts.

Construction is as lightweight as you would expect from Quarq, due to its carbon fibre cranks and aluminium spider giving you the perfect balance of strength and weight saving.

Swapping your power meter from one bike to another has become increasingly important as people realise the benefits of being able to measure their efforts across all of their cycling disciplines, from TT to cyclocross and road cycling to triathlon. Quarq's OmniCal power measurement technology facilitates this as it takes accurate measurements independently from the chainrings allowing simple swaps without fear of compatibility issues or loss of accuracy with different rings. You will also never have to worry about moving cadence sensors from bike-to-bike as the AxCad accelerometer takes care of this.

Making a user friendly power meter seems to have been a key component of the design process, and is something we can all appreciate. Changing the widely available CR2032 battery for yourself is a simple process not involving a single tool. ANT+ wireless connectivity makes getting your all important data to display on a cycle computer a stress free process, especially with the LED indicator letting you know when your devices' have paired.

Upon completion of a ride, you can easily upload to Strava, Training Peaks and a variety of other data analysis platforms to track your progress and tweak your training plan accordingly.

You can have confidence in the reliability and durability of this power meter as it has been given a waterproof rating of IPX7 meaning it can be submerged in water up to one metre for 30 minutes, which seems a little extreme even for the British weather, but is nice for peace of mind.

Finally, the 10K dynamic temperature compensation feature protects against the need to re-calibrate it for extremes of temperature.
