Garmin Forerunner 620 with HRM-Run

The Garmin Forerunner 620 with HRM-Run strap is Garmin's premium running watch and is oozing with cutting edge features that will allow you analyse your run in far greater detail than ever before.

For a watch so heavily packed with features the 620 still remains slim and lightweight - the 620 being almost 20 grams lighter than its predecessor the FR610. The strap is wide and heavily perforated making the 620 comfortable on the wrist, even when at the limit in high temperatures.

When you start your activity the 620 is able to pick up a GPS signal very quickly, thanks to satellite location caching. The 620 stores the locations of GPS satellites at various times of the day so that the watch knows exactly where to look in order to pick up a solid signal in the fastest time possible meaning that you're not stood around before your run waiting for the watch to acquire a satellite link.

An easy to read 1.0" backlit display and simple function buttons make navigating around the 620 extremely easy. There is also a touch screen that makes things even easier when on-the-go. starting/ending an activity or switching between data screens couldn't be simpler.

There are 4 customisable data screens that can display up to 4 data fields, from a choice of 44 metrics, meaning you can tailor the data shown to best fit your training.

The HRM-Run strap included with the 620 unlocks some of the more advanced features of the watch. Not only is the comfortable, HRM-Run strap responsible for relaying heart rate data to the watch, but the run pod, located in the strap, features an accelerometer that records 'Running Dynamics'. Run Dynamics comprises of Vertical Oscillation (how far you bounce up and down with each footstep), Ground Contact Time (How long each foot is in contact with the ground), and cadence (steps per foot, per minute). The analysis and improvement of this data is all about improving your running economy, ensuring you are running with optimal form. There is an easy to interpret colour coded gauge on the running dynamics screen showing you how you perform in comparison to the general population.

The 620 is also capable of calculating your VO2 max, a measurement of your body's maximum ability to transport and utilise oxygen during exercise, something typically calculated within a laboratory environment.

Recovery is a key element of an athlete's training and the Forerunner 620 will help you assess and plan your recovery. The 620 can display Recovery Check- to let you know how well you are recovering during your run (calculated after 6 minutes of activity), as well as Recovery Advisor. Recovery Advisor will give you a recommended length of recovery time before you embark on another hard effort.

The 620 is also fully compatible with Garmin's Connect platform. Garmin Connect allows you to plan, analyse and share your activities. The 620 is Wi-fi and Bluetooth ready, so you are able to upload your data immediately after your run, without the need to plug into the USB charging/data cradle. Live Tracking is also possible when linked to your smartphone via Bluetooth Smart. Live tracking allows friends or family (of your choosing) to follow your progress on a map, in real-time. This is a fantastic safety feature when running alone or at night. Garmin Connect also allows you to plan your training, with programmes set up for you to train towards a 5k, 10k and half/full marathons.

The 620 will also motivate you to push your limits. Virtual Partner gives you real time feedback as to how well you are doing against a preset pace. Once you have completed an activity the 620 will display a list of any PRs that you have broken eg, fastest kilometer, 5k, 10k, half/full marathon or longest run.

The Forerunner 620 is not restricted to the open road. A built in accelerometer within the watch enables you to record data from your indoor training sessions (on the track or treadmill). The 620 can also be paired with Garmin's footpod if preferred.

The 620 will perfectly suit triathletes. The watch is waterproof to 50m and is capable of displaying speed (rather than pace) when on the bike.
