After years of development, Specialized have launch their BG FIT service in the UK and Sigma Sport is one of the first dealerships to become fully certified. The unique system has been developed for Specialized by fit expert, Dr Andy Pruitt PA, of the Boulder Centre for Sports Medicine in the US. With over 30 years experience in helping World Champions, Tour de France winners and cyclists of all level ride faster, longer and in greater comfort, Andy Pruitt has developed a system that enables the fitter to analyse an individual's needs and adjust their bike based on their unique body characteristics, experience level and cycling goals to maximise comfort and performance - ultimately improving the lives of riders.

The basic four principles of BG FIT are:

• Bike fit is a marriage between the bicycle and the rider
• Make the bike fit the body; don't make the body fit the bike
• Dynamic bike fit is better than static bike fit
• Cycling is a sport of repetition.

In order to get certified, staff have been through an intensive training course and then been monitored by staff from Specialized's Fit University while carrying out fittings. The first two members of staff, Lee Dumbarton and Mick Silles, received their certification earlier this month with other staff members due to get their training soon.

A complete 3D BG FIT takes around two hours and costs £120. The results include maximised pedalling efficiency, endurance and increased comfort. The session involves both on- and off-bike measurement as well as using your bike on a turbo trainer to assess the effect of the dynamic adjustments being made.

The fitting service is available for road bike and time trial/triathlon bike set-ups.

Our Specialized BG-Fit service has been growing in popularity since its introduction and many riders from novice to seasoned racer have taken the opportunity to visit our 'fitting studio' and go back to basics. We really cannot emphasise strongly enough how important having a bike fine-tuned to your personal requirements is and now it seems even the most experienced riders, including Olympic champion Fabian Cancellara, have embraced the BG-Fit system which was developed by Dr Andy Pruitt.
